Yellowstone Day 3

Today we saw the “Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.” The Yellowstone River, named for the yellow rocks found downstream, runs North from Yellowstone Lake. It cut through the rocks in this spot fairly quickly because they had been softened by thermal activity. This erosion created a beautiful canyon.

We were hoping to see Yellowstone Lake as well, but there were some forest fires nearby and the road was closed because of the smoke.

I finished a lot of my homework on the ride to and back from the park—2 hours in each direction. I want to wrap everything up ASAP so I’m totally done by Sunday when Cara gets back!

By the time I got back, Ollie was glad to see me. A little stand offish at being left alone so long, but he hadn’t been dehydrated into jerky or turned into bear bait, so he didn’t have too much to complain about.
